67 Minutes. Jars of Hope. Countless Meals Shared.

South Africans across the country celebrate Nelson Mandela Day by giving 67 minutes of their time to serve others, honouring Madiba’s belief that every person has the power to make a difference.

At Stage Zero, our team decided to spend our 67 minutes doing something simple, practical and meaningful.

Together, employees enthusiastically got involved to prepare Jars of Hope, each carefully layered with ingredients that can provide a warm, nutritious meal for a family of four. The completed jars were donated to the MES Centre of Hope in Parow, where they will be distributed to individuals and families who need them most.

More than a Jar

The concept of the Jar of Hope first gained momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic, when communities across South Africa looked for simple ways to help those facing food insecurity.

Each jar contains carefully layered ingredients including:

• Rice
• Soup mix
• Lentils
• Soup powder
• Stock cube

Everything cooks together in a single pot, creating a hearty meal that is easy to prepare, nourishing, and comforting. Sometimes the simplest ideas have the biggest impact.

Every Layer Tells a Story

While the jars may look beautiful with their colourful layers of ingredients, each layer represents something far more important. It represents teamwork. It represents generosity. It represents people choosing to spend their time helping complete strangers.

Over the course of the afternoon, the Stage Zero team measured, poured, packed, sealed and labelled every jar by hand. The result was 180 meals-in-a-jar, but more importantly, hundreds of moments of collaboration and purpose.

Supporting MES Centre of Hope

The jars were delivered to the MES Centre of Hope in Parow, an organisation that provides shelter, support and pathways to independence for vulnerable members of the community. Their work extends far beyond providing meals, helping individuals rebuild their lives through accommodation, skills development and social support. We’re proud that our Mandela Day contribution will support the important work they do every day.

Small Actions. Big Difference.

At Stage Zero, we spend every day helping South Africans build a more sustainable future through clean energy. Nelson Mandela Day reminds us that sustainability is also about people and communities. A single act of kindness may seem small. But when an entire team comes together, those small acts become something much bigger.
